Race Engineering and Driving Simulator

Our know-how for your racing success

At AVL RACETECH, our engineers apply their wealth of experience and our own complete driving dynamics toolchain – from the development laboratory to the racetrack. In doing so, we make a significant contribution to sustainable success.

Our experts are perfectly integrated in the motorsport team. This allows them to directly provide the full range of services. Simulation tools offer a realistic impression of all variants of the vehicle set-up, including their strengths and weaknesses.

Motorsport technology

When our customers develop new race cars, we support them with our knowledge of the development process. With our toolchain for driving dynamics simulation, we examine new vehicle and/or propulsion system concepts. This provides the perfect basis, on which to optimize performance and driving behavior.

Using innovative test systems and methods, we test everything – from components to the whole car. Always according to the customer’s requirements and, if desired, at the racetrack. In this way, our engineers have been supporting leading teams in all important motorsport categories for years.

AVL driving simulator

Our full-motion driving simulator allows drivers to hone their skills in a safe but realistic environment. Under the watchful eye of our race engineers, they explore the limits of their own ability, test the handling on unfamiliar tracks, and fine-tune their feel for challenging environmental and car conditions – far beyond what is possible at the racetrack, including driver evaluation with biosensors.

One unique feature is the option of combining the simulator with a whole car on an AVL RACETECH testbed. This type of Driver in the Loop (DiL) testing perfectly recreates actual on-track driving in every detail – and also makes it possible to experience scenarios that could never be reproduced in reality.

We also use the driving simulator for circuit-specific set-up tests and optimizations. Hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) and software-in-the-loop (SiL) tests are also possible for different race categories.
